Our Spaces
Nurturing gardening, nature, heritage, and community.
Friends of Barshaw Park care for three very special parts of the park, each with its own story, purpose, and role in the community. From hands-on gardening to peaceful reflection, and from restoration to renewal, these spaces reflect our shared commitment to green spaces, biodiversity, sustainability, wellbeing, and local heritage.
RHS Community Garden for Scotland – a welcoming place to grow, learn, and connect.
Walled Peace Garden – a quiet space for reflection, calm, and community care.
Heritage Restoration Project – protecting Barshaw’s history and future through ongoing conservation.
Together, these spaces show how much can flourish when people, nature, and history come together.

RHS Community Garden for Scotland
The Community Garden is at the heart of our volunteering efforts, a space where anyone can roll up their sleeves and get involved. From growing fruit and vegetables to planting flowers that brighten the park, the garden is about more than just plants: it’s about people, skills development and shared purpose and learning. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or a total beginner, there’s always something to learn, do, and enjoy.

Walled Peace Garden
Tucked away in a quieter corner of the park, the Peace Garden offers a place of calm and reflection. Once overgrown, it has been carefully restored by local volunteers into a space that welcomes everyone who needs a moment of stillness. Visitors often come here to pause, reflect, or simply enjoy the beauty of nature in a more tranquil setting. It’s a garden that nurtures both the environment and wellbeing.

Heritage Restoration Project
Barshaw Park is full of heritage — and we’re committed to protecting it for future generations. The Restoration Project brings together community voices, funding partners, and expert guidance to repair and renew some of the park’s most loved historic features. From restoring the walled garden outhouse and reimagining spaces, this work is about honouring the past while creating spaces that serve today’s community.
