Finding a Moment of Calm at Barshaw Park

Hello, I’m Maria Venditozzi. I’m an experienced meditation teacher with the Glasgow Buddhist Centre, and I’m also a volunteer with Friends of Barshaw Park. I really enjoy being part of such a friendly and thriving group of people who care about the gardens and want to make our community a more beautiful and welcoming place.

As part of the Mind Your Health programme, I have been running beginner meditation courses on summer evenings in the Community Garden.

We have now held three courses this year and the feedback has been very encouraging:

“A perfect introduction to meditation in a beautiful setting... highly recommended, especially if you’ve never tried meditation before.”

“An excellent four evenings focused on being still and calm.”

It has been lovely to share my experience as a meditation teacher in such a peaceful setting, while helping people learn simple strategies for self-care, relaxation and mental wellbeing. We approach this through meditations on mindfulness and kindly reflection towards ourselves and others.

Sometimes we all need a little space away from the busyness of everyday life, whether that is to slow down, find some calm or simply give ourselves a little kindness.

Sadly, our summer meditation courses have now come to an end, but we hope to offer more meditation and wellbeing events in the gardens during the warmer months in the future.

If you would like to join us, please keep an eye out for our posters or follow Friends of Barshaw Park on Facebook and Instagram for future dates.
