Since 2014, we have been looking after and improving Barshaw Park.

About us…

Who we are

We’re the community.

In 2014, a group of like-minded people who love Barshaw Park got together and set up Friends of Barshaw Park. They established a committee, made up of people who loved and enjoyed the park - and who would work to see the park restored to its former glory.

Now a fully registered charity, many of the original members are still involved today, and have brought hundreds of new people along for the journey. No one is paid to be involved with Friends of Barshaw Park and we receive no regular funding - this is just people making things happen.

We’ve got the same passion for progress in the park and we now work hard to find new, interesting and accessible ways for everyone in Paisley to enjoy Barshaw Park.

What we do

We create and support activities that makes Barshaw Park fun and accessible for everyone.

A few years ago, a group of volunteers took on the mammoth task of clearing out what was an overgrown and disorganised walled garden. After years of hard work it is now the jewel in the crown of the park - the walled garden has been awarded top marks by Keep Scotland Beautiful two years in a row. Now, we have a community garden that provides local community groups with space to grow their own food, socialise and learn.

Throughout the year, we host bake sales, stalls from local artists and free arts and crafts sessions.

And it’s all thanks to the power of our volunteers.

Why we do it

We care about people and want everyone to feel able to enjoy Barshaw Park.

We are most active in the Walled Garden and Community Garden - we think that’s because being together with other people, in the outdoors, and working on nature based tasks feels really good.

We think there are talented people across Paisley and that’s why we are always looking for new members. Ideas and solutions are best when they are created and delivered locally - and we want to be part of making Barshaw Park an even better place to spend time.
